665. The Domus Aurea
Sorry. I just couldn't resist sandwiching something eminently frivolously between two masterpieces of ancient architecture. This was Nero's Roman villa. It's still in pretty good shape, given that it's nearly 2000 years old. It also had an octagonal court, which was apparently a big deal at the time.
