918. Heyoon

So this is an odd choice. Heyoon is a misinterpretation of the name of a private pavilion in Ann Arbor, Michigan. A recent episode of 99% Invisible had a thorough description of the pavilion, but there are no publicly available pictures. Listen to the episode, though. I feel like the totemic nature of the pavilion and the shared experiences it represents collectively qualify it as a work of art, even though I have never seen or visited it.

917. "Now is the winter of our discontent...", from Richard III

The speech brilliantly remembered by Arnold Rimmer as "Now ... something, something, something, something."

916. Jack and the Beanstalk

It's a great adventure story, but this one's always confused me. Is it allegorical? Is there some moral I'm supposed to take away?

911. A Flea in Her Ear

The standard French farce. People run in and out of bedrooms, having misunderstands about one another's intentions. If I remember right, there's even a rotating wall with a bed on either side. So basically a French Frasier episode.

910. The Uffizi Gallery

There's all sorts of priceless artwork inside, and also it's a pretty sweet building itself.

909. Dark was the Night

A moving blues song performed by Blind Willie Johnson selected for the Voyager Golden Record. Listen here.

908. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

What!? No Harry Potter books on the list yet!? That's a serious oversight. (Here's an old drawing of the philosopher's stone.)

907. Leda and the Swan

I like the Cézanne version. In case you don't know the story, the swan is Zeus.

905. The Daleks

This theme was somewhat hard to execute after 900 entries. I already used the obvious choices of X-Men and Xenocide. Also the legend of Excalibur, Treasure Island ("X marks the spot"), and Kubla Khan ("In Xanadu did Kubla Khan a stately pleasure dome decree..."). So I guess that leaves me with "Exterminate! Exterminate!"

896. Othello

One of Shakespeare's lesser-known plays, if you believe Benj's community college.

891. The Theme from Jaws

The most menacing two notes in film. (The single most menacing note is probably the shower scene from Psycho.)

889. The Handmaid's Tale

Why are there so many books that are pessimistic about the future? I'd like to read a book where everybody is content and technology has solved all our problems. (Of course, that was the point of Brave New World, but apparently most people interpreted it differently than I did.)
